ABOUT DI-RECT
After 5 successful albums and over a 1000 energetic shows, these guys are hard to miss in the Dutch music scene. For the past years they played at almost every club in the Netherlands as well as all major Dutch festivals. From their start in 1999 onwards, DI-RECT conquered the charts with numerous top 10 hits.
In February 2009 singer Tim Akkerman quits DI-RECT to start focusing on a solo career as a singer- songwriter. The other band members Spike van Zoest, Bas van Wageningen en Jamie Westland decided to go on and started searching for a new lead singer.
This search turned out better then they could have dreamed by finding Marcel Veendendaal. An extraordinary singer, who gave the band a whole new dimension on a musical and spiritual level. Besides Marcel, longtime friend of the band and outstanding songwriter, Vince van Reeken joined the band on keys.
Completed by these two new guys DI-RECT is more alive then ever. Early 2010 the band recorded their first album in this formation “THIS IS WHO WE ARE”, which entered the iTunes albumchart at #1. The first single “Times are changing” became DI-RECT’s first #1 hit, the ultimate proof of the new found chemistry.
Follow up singles, “This is who we are” and “Hold on” entered the Top 10 as well. After releasing “THIS IS WHO WE ARE” the band played over 40 festivals, right now DI-RECT is about to start a clubtour and they’re already writing songs for the follow up album.
